إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ
when he said to his father and his people, “What is that which you worship?
أَئِفۡكًا ءَالِهَةٗ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ
Do you wish (to have) fallacious gods other than Allah?
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Then, what do you think about the Lord of the worlds?”
فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةٗ فِي ٱلنُّجُومِ
Then, he cast a look at the stars,
فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٞ
and then said, “I feel indisposed”
فَتَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِينَ
So they went away from him, turning their backs.
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ
And he made his way to their ‘gods’ and said to them, “Why would you not eat?
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
What is wrong with you that you do not speak?”
فَرَاغَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡيَمِينِ
Then he attacked them striking with his right hand.
