Ash-Shams
وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا
(91:1) By the sun and its heat and brightness,1
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا
(91:2) and by the moon as it follows it;
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا
(91:3) and by the day as it displays the sun's glory,
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا
(91:4) and by the night as it envelopes the sun;2
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا
(91:5) and by the sky and by Him Who made it;3
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا
(91:6) and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out;
وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا
(91:7) and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it,4
فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا
(91:8) and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety:5
