### الآية 44:1

> حم [44:1]

1. Hâ.-Mîm.

### الآية 44:2

> وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ [44:2]

2. By the manifest Book (this Qur’ân) that makes things clear.

### الآية 44:3

> إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنْذِرِينَ [44:3]

3. We sent it (this Qur’ân) down on a blessed night \[(i.e. night of Al-Qadr, Sûrah No. 97) in the month of Ramadân - the 9th month of the Islâmic calendar\]. Verily, We are ever warning \[mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship\].

### الآية 44:4

> فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ [44:4]

4. Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments.\[1\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
(V.44:4) i.e. the matters of deaths, births, provisions, calamities, etc. for the whole (coming) year as decreed by Allah.

### الآية 44:5

> أَمْرًا مِنْ عِنْدِنَا ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ [44:5]

5. As a Command (or this Qur’ân or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers),

### الآية 44:6

> رَحْمَةً مِنْ رَبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ [44:6]

6. (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

### الآية 44:7

> رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُوقِنِينَ [44:7]

7. The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty.

### الآية 44:8

> لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ [44:8]

8. Lâ ilaha illâ Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death - your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.

### الآية 44:9

> بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ [44:9]

9. Nay! They play about in doubt.

### الآية 44:10

> فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُبِينٍ [44:10]

10. Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke,

### الآية 44:11

> يَغْشَى النَّاسَ ۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ [44:11]

11. Covering the people: this is a painful torment.

### الآية 44:12

> رَبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ [44:12]

12. (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!"

### الآية 44:13

> أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ الذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُبِينٌ [44:13]

13. How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them.

### الآية 44:14

> ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا مُعَلَّمٌ مَجْنُونٌ [44:14]

14. Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) and said: (He is) one taught (by a human being), a madman!"

### الآية 44:15

> إِنَّا كَاشِفُو الْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَائِدُونَ [44:15]

15. Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily you will revert (to disbelief).

### الآية 44:16

> يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ إِنَّا مُنْتَقِمُونَ [44:16]

16. On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest seizure (punishment). Verily, We will exact retribution.

### الآية 44:17

> ۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ [44:17]

17. And indeed We tried before them Fir‘aun’s (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger \[i.e. Mûsâ (Moses) عليه السلام\],

### الآية 44:18

> أَنْ أَدُّوا إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ [44:18]

18. Saying: "Deliver to me the slaves of Allâh (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily, I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust.

### الآية 44:19

> وَأَنْ لَا تَعْلُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّي آتِيكُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ [44:19]

19\. "And exalt not yourselves against Allâh. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority.

### الآية 44:20

> وَإِنِّي عُذْتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمْ أَنْ تَرْجُمُونِ [44:20]

20. "And truly, I seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me).

### الآية 44:21

> وَإِنْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا لِي فَاعْتَزِلُونِ [44:21]

21. "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone."

### الآية 44:22

> فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ قَوْمٌ مُجْرِمُونَ [44:22]

22. (But they were aggressive), so he \[Mûsâ (Moses)\] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals)."

### الآية 44:23

> فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيْلًا إِنَّكُمْ مُتَّبَعُونَ [44:23]

23. (Allâh said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued.

### الآية 44:24

> وَاتْرُكِ الْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُنْدٌ مُغْرَقُونَ [44:24]

24. "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, they are a host to be drowned."

### الآية 44:25

> كَمْ تَرَكُوا مِنْ جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ [44:25]

25. How many of gardens and springs that they \[Fir‘aun’s (Pharaoh) people\] left behind,

### الآية 44:26

> وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ [44:26]

26. And green crops (fields) and goodly places,

### الآية 44:27

> وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا فِيهَا فَاكِهِينَ [44:27]

27. And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight!

### الآية 44:28

> كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا قَوْمًا آخَرِينَ [44:28]

28. Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt).

### الآية 44:29

> فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَاءُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنْظَرِينَ [44:29]

29. And the heavens and the earth wept not for them,\[1\] nor were they given a respite.
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
(V.44:29) Narrated Ibn Jarîr At-Tabari: Ibn ‘Abbâs رضي الله عنهما said, "When a believer dies, the place of earth on which he used to prostrate himself in his Salât (prayer), and the gate in the heaven through which his good deeds used to ascend, weep for him (or her), while they do not weep for the disbeliever." \[Tafsir At-Tabari\].

### الآية 44:30

> وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِينِ [44:30]

30. And indeed We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment:

### الآية 44:31

> مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِنَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ [44:31]

31. From Fir‘aun (Pharaoh); verily he was arrogant and was of the Musrifûn (those who transgress beyond bound in spending and other things and commit great sins).

### الآية 44:32

> وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ [44:32]

32. And We chose them (the Children of Israel) above the ‘Âlamîn (mankind and jinn) \[during the time of Mûsâ (Moses)\] with knowledge,

### الآية 44:33

> وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الْآيَاتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَاءٌ مُبِينٌ [44:33]

33. And granted them signs in which there was a plain trial.

### الآية 44:34

> إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَيَقُولُونَ [44:34]

34. Verily, these (Quraish) people are saying:

### الآية 44:35

> إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنْشَرِينَ [44:35]

35. "There is nothing but our first death, and we shall not be resurrected.

### الآية 44:36

> فَأْتُوا بِآبَائِنَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ [44:36]

36. "Then bring back our forefathers, if you speak the truth!"

### الآية 44:37

> أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ [44:37]

37. Are they better or the people of Tubba‘ and those before them? We destroyed them because they were indeed Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals).

### الآية 44:38

> وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِبِينَ [44:38]

38. And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play.

### الآية 44:39

> مَا خَلَقْنَاهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ [44:39]

39. We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not.

### الآية 44:40

> إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ مِيقَاتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ [44:40]

40. Verily, the Day of Judgement (when Allâh will judge between the creatures) is the time appointed for all of them -

### الآية 44:41

> يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي مَوْلًى عَنْ مَوْلًى شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ [44:41]

41. The Day when a Maulâ (a near relative) cannot avail a Maulâ (a near relative) in aught, and no help can they receive,

### الآية 44:42

> إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ [44:42]

42. Except him on whom Allâh has Mercy. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

### الآية 44:43

> إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّومِ [44:43]

43. Verily, the tree of Zaqqûm

### الآية 44:44

> طَعَامُ الْأَثِيمِ [44:44]

44. Will be the food of the sinners.

### الآية 44:45

> كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْلِي فِي الْبُطُونِ [44:45]

45. Like boiling oil, it will boil in the bellies,

### الآية 44:46

> كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ [44:46]

46. Like the boiling of scalding water.

### الآية 44:47

> خُذُوهُ فَاعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ [44:47]

47. (It will be said) "Seize him and drag him into the midst of blazing Fire,

### الآية 44:48

> ثُمَّ صُبُّوا فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْحَمِيمِ [44:48]

48. "Then pour over his head the torment of boiling water.

### الآية 44:49

> ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ [44:49]

49. "Taste you (this)! Verily, you were (pretending to be) the mighty, the generous!

### الآية 44:50

> إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ [44:50]

50. "Verily, this is that whereof you used to doubt!"

### الآية 44:51

> إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ [44:51]

51. Verily, the Muttaqûn (the pious. See V.2:2), will be in place of Security (Paradise).

### الآية 44:52

> فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ [44:52]

52. Among Gardens and Springs,

### الآية 44:53

> يَلْبَسُونَ مِنْ سُنْدُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ [44:53]

53. Dressed in fine silk and (also) in thick silk, facing each other,

### الآية 44:54

> كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ عِينٍ [44:54]

54. So (it will be). And We shall marry them to Hûr\[1\] (fair female) with wide, lovely eyes.
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
(V.44:54) Hûr: Very fair females created by Allah as such, not from the offspring of Adam عليه السلام, with intense black irises of their eyes and intense white scleras. \[For details see the book Hadi Al-Arwâh by Ibn Al-Qaiyim, Chapter 54, Page 147\].

### الآية 44:55

> يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ آمِنِينَ [44:55]

55. They will call therein for every kind of fruit in peace and security;

### الآية 44:56

> لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا الْمَوْتَ إِلَّا الْمَوْتَةَ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَاهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ [44:56]

56. They will never taste death therein except the first death (of this world), and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire,

### الآية 44:57

> فَضْلًا مِنْ رَبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ [44:57]

57. As a Bounty from your Lord! That will be the supreme success!

### الآية 44:58

> فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ [44:58]

58. Certainly, We have made this (Qur’an) easy in your tongue, in order that they may remember.

### الآية 44:59

> فَارْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُمْ مُرْتَقِبُونَ [44:59]

59. Wait then (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم); verily, they (too) are waiting.
