### الآية 53:1

> وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ [53:1]

An-Najm 
--------

---

وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ


By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes).

---

### الآية 53:2

> مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ [53:2]

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ


Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred.

---

### الآية 53:3

> وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ [53:3]

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ


Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.

---

### الآية 53:4

> إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ [53:4]

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡيٞ يُوحَىٰ


It is only an Inspiration that is inspired.

---

### الآية 53:5

> عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ [53:5]

عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ


He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)].

---

### الآية 53:6

> ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ [53:6]

ذُو مِرَّةٖ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ


Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari].

### الآية 53:7

> وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ [53:7]

وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ


While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon,

---

### الآية 53:8

> ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ [53:8]

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ


Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer,

---

### الآية 53:9

> فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ [53:9]

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَيۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ


And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer,

---

### الآية 53:10

> فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ [53:10]

فَأَوۡحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَآ أَوۡحَىٰ


So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)].

### الآية 53:11

> مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ [53:11]

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ


The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw.

---

### الآية 53:12

> أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ [53:12]

أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ


Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)].

### الآية 53:13

> وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ [53:13]

وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ


And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time).

### الآية 53:14

> عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ [53:14]

عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ


Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)],

---

### الآية 53:15

> عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ [53:15]

عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰٓ


Near it is the Paradise of Abode.

---

### الآية 53:16

> إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ [53:16]

إِذۡ يَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا يَغۡشَىٰ


When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it!

---

### الآية 53:17

> مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ [53:17]

مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ


The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it).

### الآية 53:18

> لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ [53:18]

لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ


Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah).

---

### الآية 53:19

> أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّىٰ [53:19]

أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ


Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs).

### الآية 53:20

> وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ [53:20]

وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰٓ


And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third?

---

### الآية 53:21

> أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الْأُنْثَىٰ [53:21]

أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ


Is it for you the males and for Him the females?

---

### الآية 53:22

> تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰ [53:22]

تِلۡكَ إِذٗا قِسۡمَةٞ ضِيزَىٰٓ


That indeed is a division most unfair!

---

### الآية 53:23

> إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۚ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنْفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ [53:23]

إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّآ أَسۡمَآءٞ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٍۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ


They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord!

### الآية 53:24

> أَمْ لِلْإِنْسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ [53:24]

أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ


Or shall man have what he wishes?

---

### الآية 53:25

> فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَىٰ [53:25]

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ


But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world).

---

### الآية 53:26

> ۞ وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ [53:26]

۞وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٖ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِي شَفَٰعَتُهُمۡ شَيۡـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن يَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرۡضَىٰٓ


And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He wills and pleases.

### الآية 53:27

> إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنْثَىٰ [53:27]

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسۡمِيَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ


Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.

### الآية 53:28

> وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا [53:28]

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَيۡـٔٗا


While they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth.

### الآية 53:29

> فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلَّىٰ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا [53:29]

فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ يُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا


Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Quran) and desires nothing but the life of this world.

### الآية 53:30

> ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ [53:30]

ذَٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ


That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance.

### الآية 53:31

> وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى [53:31]

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى


And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, that He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise).

### الآية 53:32

> الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ [53:32]

ٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةٞ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ


Those who avoid great sins (see the Quran, Verses: 6:152, 153) and Al-Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth (Adam), and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allah and keep his duty to Him [i.e. those who are Al-Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2)].

### الآية 53:33

> أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ [53:33]

أَفَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ


Did you (O Muhammad SAW) observe him who turned away (from Islam).

---

### الآية 53:34

> وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰ [53:34]

وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِيلٗا وَأَكۡدَىٰٓ


And gave a little, then stopped (giving)?

---

### الآية 53:35

> أَعِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰ [53:35]

أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ


Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees?

### الآية 53:36

> أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ [53:36]

أَمۡ لَمۡ يُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ


Or is he not informed with what is in the Pages (Scripture) of Musa (Moses),

---

### الآية 53:37

> وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّىٰ [53:37]

وَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِي وَفَّىٰٓ


And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey),

---

### الآية 53:38

> أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ [53:38]

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٞ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ


That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another.

---

### الآية 53:39

> وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ [53:39]

وَأَن لَّيۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ


And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad).

### الآية 53:40

> وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ [53:40]

وَأَنَّ سَعۡيَهُۥ سَوۡفَ يُرَىٰ


And that his deeds will be seen,

---

### الآية 53:41

> ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَىٰ [53:41]

ثُمَّ يُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَآءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ


Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense.

---

### الآية 53:42

> وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ [53:42]

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ


And that to your Lord (Allah) is the End (Return of everything).

---

### الآية 53:43

> وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ [53:43]

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ


And that it is He (Allah) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep;

---

### الآية 53:44

> وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا [53:44]

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡيَا


And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life;

---

### الآية 53:45

> وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ [53:45]

وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ


And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female,

---

### الآية 53:46

> مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ [53:46]

مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ


From Nutfah (drops of semen male and female discharges) when it is emitted;

---

### الآية 53:47

> وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ [53:47]

وَأَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ


And that upon Him (Allah) is another bringing forth (Resurrection);

### الآية 53:48

> وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ [53:48]

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ


And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment),

### الآية 53:49

> وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَىٰ [53:49]

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ


And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship);

---

### الآية 53:50

> وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَىٰ [53:50]

وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ


And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people),

---

### الآية 53:51

> وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَىٰ [53:51]

وَثَمُودَاْ فَمَآ أَبۡقَىٰ


And Thamud (people). He spared none of them.

---

### الآية 53:52

> وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ [53:52]

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ


And the people of Nuh (Noah) aforetime, verily, they were more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing [in disobeying Allah and His Messenger Nuh (Noah)].

---

### الآية 53:53

> وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ [53:53]

وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ


And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent].

---

### الآية 53:54

> فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ [53:54]

فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ


So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones).

---

### الآية 53:55

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ [53:55]

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ


Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt.

---

### الآية 53:56

> هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَىٰ [53:56]

هَٰذَا نَذِيرٞ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ


This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old.

---

### الآية 53:57

> أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ [53:57]

أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ


The Day of Resurrection draws near,

---

### الآية 53:58

> لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ [53:58]

لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ


None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it).

### الآية 53:59

> أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ [53:59]

أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ


Do you then wonder at this recital (the Quran)?

---

### الآية 53:60

> وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ [53:60]

وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ


And you laugh at it and weep not,

---

### الآية 53:61

> وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ [53:61]

وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ


Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.).

---

### الآية 53:62

> فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا ۩ [53:62]

فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩


So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone).
