Translation of Surah القمر from "Dr. Mustafa Khattab - English translation" in الإنجليزية. ### الآية 54:1 > اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ [54:1] Al-Qamar --------- --- ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ The Hour has drawn near and the moon was split ˹in two˺.1 --- ### الآية 54:2 > وَإِنْ يَرَوْا آيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ [54:2] وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ Yet, whenever they see a sign, they turn away,1 saying, “Same old magic!” --- ### الآية 54:3 > وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُسْتَقِرٌّ [54:3] وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ They rejected ˹the truth˺ and followed their own desires—and every matter will be settled— --- ### الآية 54:4 > وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَنْبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ [54:4] وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ even though the stories ˹of destroyed nations˺ that have already come to them are a sufficient deterrent. --- ### الآية 54:5 > حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ [54:5] حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ˹This Quran is˺ profound ˹in˺ wisdom, but warnings are of no benefit ˹to them˺. --- ### الآية 54:6 > فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍ [54:6] فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ So turn away from them ˹O Prophet˺. ˹And wait for˺ the Day ˹when˺ the caller1 will summon ˹them˺ for something horrifying.2 --- ### الآية 54:7 > خُشَّعًا أَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌ [54:7] خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادٞ مُّنتَشِرٞ With eyes downcast, they will come forth from the graves as if they were swarming locusts, --- ### الآية 54:8 > مُهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ [54:8] مُّهۡطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَسِرٞ rushing towards the caller. The disbelievers will cry, “This is a difficult Day!” --- ### الآية 54:9 > ۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ [54:9] ۞كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ فَكَذَّبُواْ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُواْ مَجۡنُونٞ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ Before them, the people of Noah denied ˹the truth˺ and rejected Our servant, calling ˹him˺ insane. And he was intimidated. --- ### الآية 54:10 > فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ [54:10] فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَغۡلُوبٞ فَٱنتَصِرۡ So he cried out to his Lord, “I am helpless, so help ˹me˺!” --- ### الآية 54:11 > فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍ [54:11] فَفَتَحۡنَآ أَبۡوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٖ مُّنۡهَمِرٖ So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring rain, --- ### الآية 54:12 > وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَىٰ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ [54:12] وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُيُونٗا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرٖ قَدۡ قُدِرَ and caused the earth to burst with springs, so the waters met for a fate already set. --- ### الآية 54:13 > وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍ [54:13] وَحَمَلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَٰحٖ وَدُسُرٖ We carried him on that ˹Ark made˺ of planks and nails, --- ### الآية 54:14 > تَجْرِي بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَاءً لِمَنْ كَانَ كُفِرَ [54:14] تَجۡرِي بِأَعۡيُنِنَا جَزَآءٗ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ sailing under Our ˹watchful˺ Eyes—a ˹fair˺ punishment on behalf of the one ˹they˺ denied. --- ### الآية 54:15 > وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَاهَا آيَةً فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [54:15] وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَٰهَآ ءَايَةٗ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ We certainly left this1 as a sign. So is there anyone who will be mindful? --- ### الآية 54:16 > فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [54:16] فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ Then how ˹dreadful˺ were My punishment and warnings! --- ### الآية 54:17 > وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [54:17] وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful? --- ### الآية 54:18 > كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [54:18] كَذَّبَتۡ عَادٞ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ ’Ȃd ˹also˺ rejected ˹the truth˺. Then how ˹dreadful˺ were My punishment and warnings! --- ### الآية 54:19 > إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّ [54:19] إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيحٗا صَرۡصَرٗا فِي يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٖ مُّسۡتَمِرّٖ Indeed, We sent against them a furious wind,1 on a day of unrelenting misery, --- ### الآية 54:20 > تَنْزِعُ النَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُنْقَعِرٍ [54:20] تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٖ مُّنقَعِرٖ that snatched people up, leaving them like trunks of uprooted palm trees. --- ### الآية 54:21 > فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [54:21] فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ Then how ˹dreadful˺ were My punishment and warnings! --- ### الآية 54:22 > وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [54:22] وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful? --- ### الآية 54:23 > كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ [54:23] كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ Thamûd rejected the warnings ˹as well˺, --- ### الآية 54:24 > فَقَالُوا أَبَشَرًا مِنَّا وَاحِدًا نَتَّبِعُهُ إِنَّا إِذًا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ [54:24] فَقَالُوٓاْ أَبَشَرٗا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدٗا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّفِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٍ arguing, “How can we follow one ˹average˺ human being from among us? We would then truly be misguided and insane. --- ### الآية 54:25 > أَأُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ [54:25] أَءُلۡقِيَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۢ بَيۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٞ Has the revelation been sent down ˹only˺ to him out of ˹all of˺ us? In fact, he is a boastful liar.” --- ### الآية 54:26 > سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَنِ الْكَذَّابُ الْأَشِرُ [54:26] سَيَعۡلَمُونَ غَدٗا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ ˹It was revealed to Ṣâliḥ,˺ “They will soon know who the boastful liar is. --- ### الآية 54:27 > إِنَّا مُرْسِلُو النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْ [54:27] إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةٗ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them ˹closely˺, and have patience. --- ### الآية 54:28 > وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ الْمَاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُحْتَضَرٌ [54:28] وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَآءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبٖ مُّحۡتَضَرٞ And tell them that the ˹drinking˺ water must be divided between them ˹and her˺, each taking a turn to drink ˹every other day˺.” --- ### الآية 54:29 > فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ [54:29] فَنَادَوۡاْ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ But they roused a companion of theirs, so he dared to kill ˹her˺. --- ### الآية 54:30 > فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [54:30] فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ Then how ˹dreadful˺ were My punishment and warnings! --- ### الآية 54:31 > إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَكَانُوا كَهَشِيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ [54:31] إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَيۡحَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ فَكَانُواْ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ Indeed, We sent against them ˹only˺ one ˹mighty˺ blast, leaving them like the twigs of fence-builders. --- ### الآية 54:32 > وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [54:32] وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful? --- ### الآية 54:33 > كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ [54:33] كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ The people of Lot ˹also˺ rejected the warnings. --- ### الآية 54:34 > إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍ [54:34] إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٖۖ نَّجَّيۡنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٖ We unleashed upon them a storm of stones. As for ˹the believers of˺ Lot’s family, We delivered them before dawn --- ### الآية 54:35 > نِعْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي مَنْ شَكَرَ [54:35] نِّعۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي مَن شَكَرَ as a blessing from Us. This is how We reward whoever gives thanks. --- ### الآية 54:36 > وَلَقَدْ أَنْذَرَهُمْ بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ [54:36] وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡاْ بِٱلنُّذُرِ He had already warned them of Our ˹crushing˺ blow but they disputed the warnings. --- ### الآية 54:37 > وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَنْ ضَيْفِهِ فَطَمَسْنَا أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [54:37] وَلَقَدۡ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَآ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ And they even demanded his angel-guests from him,1 so We blinded their eyes. ˹And they were told,˺ “Taste then My punishment and warnings!” --- ### الآية 54:38 > وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُمْ بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُسْتَقِرٌّ [54:38] وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابٞ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ And indeed, by the early morning they were overwhelmed by an unrelenting torment. --- ### الآية 54:39 > فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [54:39] فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ ˹Again they were told,˺ “Taste now My punishment and warnings!” --- ### الآية 54:40 > وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [54:40] وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful? --- ### الآية 54:41 > وَلَقَدْ جَاءَ آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُ [54:41] وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ And indeed, the warnings ˹also˺ came to the people of Pharaoh. --- ### الآية 54:42 > كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ [54:42] كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِيزٖ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ ˹But˺ they rejected all of Our signs, so We seized them with the ˹crushing˺ grip of the Almighty, Most Powerful. --- ### الآية 54:43 > أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أُولَٰئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُمْ بَرَاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِ [54:43] أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٞ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ Now, are you ˹Meccan˺ disbelievers superior to those ˹destroyed peoples˺? Or have you ˹been granted˺ immunity ˹from punishment˺ in divine Books? --- ### الآية 54:44 > أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُنْتَصِرٌ [54:44] أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِيعٞ مُّنتَصِرٞ Or do they say, “We are all ˹a˺ united ˹front˺, bound to prevail.”? --- ### الآية 54:45 > سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ [54:45] سَيُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ ˹Soon˺ their united front will be defeated and ˹forced to˺ flee.1 --- ### الآية 54:46 > بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ [54:46] بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ Better yet, the Hour is their appointed time—and the Hour will be most catastrophic and most bitter. --- ### الآية 54:47 > إِنَّ الْمُجْرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ [54:47] إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٖ Indeed, the wicked are ˹entrenched˺ in misguidance, and ˹are bound for˺ blazes. --- ### الآية 54:48 > يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ [54:48] يَوۡمَ يُسۡحَبُونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُواْ مَسَّ سَقَرَ On the Day they will be dragged into the Fire on their faces, ˹they will be told,˺ “Taste the touch of Hell!”1 --- ### الآية 54:49 > إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ [54:49] إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٖ Indeed, We have created everything, perfectly preordained. --- ### الآية 54:50 > وَمَا أَمْرُنَا إِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ [54:50] وَمَآ أَمۡرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٞ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ Our command1 is but a single word,2 done in the blink of an eye. --- ### الآية 54:51 > وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [54:51] وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ We have already destroyed the likes of you.
