### الآية 55:1

> الرَّحْمَٰنُ [55:1]

(1) The Most Merciful

### الآية 55:2

> عَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ [55:2]

(2) Taught the Qur’ān,

### الآية 55:3

> خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ [55:3]

(3) Created man,

### الآية 55:4

> عَلَّمَهُ الْبَيَانَ [55:4]

(4) \[And\] taught him eloquence.

### الآية 55:5

> الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ [55:5]

(5) The sun and the moon \[move\] by precise calculation,

### الآية 55:6

> وَالنَّجْمُ وَالشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ [55:6]

(6) And the stars and trees prostrate.\[1593\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1593\]- They submit obediently to the laws of Allāh. See 22:18. An additional meaning of "najm" is vegetation of a kind without a trunk, stalk or stem.

### الآية 55:7

> وَالسَّمَاءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْمِيزَانَ [55:7]

(7) And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance

### الآية 55:8

> أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانِ [55:8]

(8) That you not transgress within the balance.

### الآية 55:9

> وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ [55:9]

(9) And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.

### الآية 55:10

> وَالْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ [55:10]

(10) And the earth He laid \[out\] for the creatures.

### الآية 55:11

> فِيهَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَالنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ الْأَكْمَامِ [55:11]

(11) Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths \[of dates\]

### الآية 55:12

> وَالْحَبُّ ذُو الْعَصْفِ وَالرَّيْحَانُ [55:12]

(12) And grain having husks and scented plants.

### الآية 55:13

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:13]

(13) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?\[1594\]

\[1594\]- Literally, "you two," addressing the species of mankind and jinn.

### الآية 55:14

> خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ كَالْفَخَّارِ [55:14]

(14) He created man from clay like \[that of\] pottery.

### الآية 55:15

> وَخَلَقَ الْجَانَّ مِنْ مَارِجٍ مِنْ نَارٍ [55:15]

(15) And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.

### الآية 55:16

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:16]

(16) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:17

> رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَرَبُّ الْمَغْرِبَيْنِ [55:17]

(17) \[He is\] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.\[1595\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1595\]- i.e., the points of sunrise in the east and sunset in the west in both summer and winter.

### الآية 55:18

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:18]

(18) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:19

> مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ [55:19]

(19) He released the two seas,\[1596\] meeting \[one another\];
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1596\]- Two bodies of water or two sea waters of distinct characteristics.

### الآية 55:20

> بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌ لَا يَبْغِيَانِ [55:20]

(20) Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.

### الآية 55:21

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:21]

(21) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:22

> يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمَا اللُّؤْلُؤُ وَالْمَرْجَانُ [55:22]

(22) From both of them emerge pearl and coral.

### الآية 55:23

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:23]

(23) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:24

> وَلَهُ الْجَوَارِ الْمُنْشَآتُ فِي الْبَحْرِ كَالْأَعْلَامِ [55:24]

(24) And to Him belong the ships \[with sails\] elevated in the sea like mountains.

### الآية 55:25

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:25]

(25) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:26

> كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ [55:26]

(26) Everyone upon it \[i.e., the earth\] will perish,

### الآية 55:27

> وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ [55:27]

(27) And there will remain the Face\[1597\] of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

### الآية 55:28

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:28]

(28) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:29

> يَسْأَلُهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأْنٍ [55:29]

(29) Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is in \[i.e., bringing about\] a matter.\[1598\]

\[1598\]- For each of His creatures.

### الآية 55:30

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:30]

(30) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:31

> سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ الثَّقَلَانِ [55:31]

(31) We will attend to you, O prominent beings.\[1599\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1599\]- Specifically two: mankind and jinn.

### الآية 55:32

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:32]

(32) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:33

> يَا مَعْشَرَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَنْ تَنْفُذُوا مِنْ أَقْطَارِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ فَانْفُذُوا ۚ لَا تَنْفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَانٍ [55:33]

(33) O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority \[from Allāh\].

### الآية 55:34

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:34]

(34) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:35

> يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌ مِنْ نَارٍ وَنُحَاسٌ فَلَا تَنْتَصِرَانِ [55:35]

(35) There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke,\[1600\] and you will not defend yourselves.
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1600\]- Another possible meaning is liquefied brass or copper.

### الآية 55:36

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:36]

(36) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:37

> فَإِذَا انْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ وَرْدَةً كَالدِّهَانِ [55:37]

(37) And when the heaven is split open and becomes rose-colored like oil\[1601\] -
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1601\]- Or "like a tanned skin."

### الآية 55:38

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:38]

(38) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:39

> فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُسْأَلُ عَنْ ذَنْبِهِ إِنْسٌ وَلَا جَانٌّ [55:39]

(39) Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or jinn.\[1602\]

\[1602\]- Once they have been condemned to the Fire.

### الآية 55:40

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:40]

(40) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:41

> يُعْرَفُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَاهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِالنَّوَاصِي وَالْأَقْدَامِ [55:41]

(41) The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.

### الآية 55:42

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:42]

(42) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:43

> هَٰذِهِ جَهَنَّمُ الَّتِي يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا الْمُجْرِمُونَ [55:43]

(43) This is Hell, which the criminals deny.

### الآية 55:44

> يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ حَمِيمٍ آنٍ [55:44]

(44) They will circulate between it and scalding water, heated \[to the utmost degree\].

### الآية 55:45

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:45]

(45) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:46

> وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جَنَّتَانِ [55:46]

(46) But for he who has feared the position of his Lord\[1603\] are two gardens -
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1603\]- An alternative meaning is "the standing \[for account\] before his Lord."

### الآية 55:47

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:47]

(47) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:48

> ذَوَاتَا أَفْنَانٍ [55:48]

(48) Having \[spreading\] branches.

### الآية 55:49

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:49]

(49) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:50

> فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ تَجْرِيَانِ [55:50]

(50) In both of them are two springs, flowing.

### الآية 55:51

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:51]

(51) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:52

> فِيهِمَا مِنْ كُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ زَوْجَانِ [55:52]

(52) In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.

### الآية 55:53

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:53]

(53) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:54

> مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشٍ بَطَائِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ ۚ وَجَنَى الْجَنَّتَيْنِ دَانٍ [55:54]

(54) \[They are\] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.

### الآية 55:55

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:55]

(55) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:56

> فِيهِنَّ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنْسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَانٌّ [55:56]

(56) In them are women limiting \[their\] glances,\[1604\] untouched\[1605\] before them by man or jinnī -
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1604\]- To their own mates, i.e., being chaste and modest.
\[1605\]- Literally, they have not been caused to bleed by loss of virginity.

### الآية 55:57

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:57]

(57) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:58

> كَأَنَّهُنَّ الْيَاقُوتُ وَالْمَرْجَانُ [55:58]

(58) As if they were rubies and coral.\[1606\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1606\]- In purity, color and beauty.

### الآية 55:59

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:59]

(59) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:60

> هَلْ جَزَاءُ الْإِحْسَانِ إِلَّا الْإِحْسَانُ [55:60]

(60) Is the reward for good \[anything\] but good?

### الآية 55:61

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:61]

(61) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:62

> وَمِنْ دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ [55:62]

(62) And below them both \[in excellence\] are two \[other\] gardens -

### الآية 55:63

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:63]

(63) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:64

> مُدْهَامَّتَانِ [55:64]

(64) Dark green \[in color\].

### الآية 55:65

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:65]

(65) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:66

> فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ [55:66]

(66) In both of them are two springs, spouting.

### الآية 55:67

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:67]

(67) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:68

> فِيهِمَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَنَخْلٌ وَرُمَّانٌ [55:68]

(68) In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.

### الآية 55:69

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:69]

(69) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:70

> فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَاتٌ حِسَانٌ [55:70]

(70) In them are good and beautiful women -

### الآية 55:71

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:71]

(71) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:72

> حُورٌ مَقْصُورَاتٌ فِي الْخِيَامِ [55:72]

(72) Fair ones reserved in pavilions -

### الآية 55:73

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:73]

(73) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:74

> لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنْسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَانٌّ [55:74]

(74) Untouched before them by man or jinnī -

### الآية 55:75

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:75]

(75) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

### الآية 55:76

> مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍ وَعَبْقَرِيٍّ حِسَانٍ [55:76]

(76) Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.

### الآية 55:77

> فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ [55:77]

(77) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

### الآية 55:78

> تَبَارَكَ اسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ [55:78]

(78) Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
