### الآية 70:1

> سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ [70:1]

Al-Ma'arij 
-----------

---

سَأَلَ سَآئِلُۢ بِعَذَابٖ وَاقِعٖ


A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall

---

### الآية 70:2

> لِلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ [70:2]

لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ لَيۡسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٞ


Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert,

---

### الآية 70:3

> مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ [70:3]

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِي ٱلۡمَعَارِجِ


From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent.

### الآية 70:4

> تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ [70:4]

تَعۡرُجُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيۡهِ فِي يَوۡمٖ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهُۥ خَمۡسِينَ أَلۡفَ سَنَةٖ


The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years,

### الآية 70:5

> فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا [70:5]

فَٱصۡبِرۡ صَبۡرٗا جَمِيلًا


So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience.

---

### الآية 70:6

> إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا [70:6]

إِنَّهُمۡ يَرَوۡنَهُۥ بَعِيدٗا


Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off,

---

### الآية 70:7

> وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا [70:7]

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبٗا


But We see it (quite) near.

---

### الآية 70:8

> يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ [70:8]

يَوۡمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ


The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.).

### الآية 70:9

> وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ [70:9]

وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ


And the mountains will be like flakes of wool,

---

### الآية 70:10

> وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا [70:10]

وَلَا يَسۡـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمٗا


And no friend will ask of a friend,

---

### الآية 70:11

> يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ [70:11]

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمۡۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُ لَوۡ يَفۡتَدِي مِنۡ عَذَابِ يَوۡمِئِذِۭ بِبَنِيهِ


Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children.

### الآية 70:12

> وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ [70:12]

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ


And his wife and his brother,

---

### الآية 70:13

> وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ [70:13]

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِي تُـٔۡوِيهِ


And his kindred who sheltered him,

---

### الآية 70:14

> وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيهِ [70:14]

وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ


And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him.

### الآية 70:15

> كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ [70:15]

كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ


By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell!

---

### الآية 70:16

> نَزَّاعَةً لِلشَّوَىٰ [70:16]

نَزَّاعَةٗ لِّلشَّوَىٰ


Taking away (burning completely) the head skin!

---

### الآية 70:17

> تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ [70:17]

تَدۡعُواْ مَنۡ أَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ


Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289]

### الآية 70:18

> وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ [70:18]

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوۡعَىٰٓ


And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah).

---

### الآية 70:19

> ۞ إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا [70:19]

۞إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا


Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient;

---

### الآية 70:20

> إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا [70:20]

إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعٗا


Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him;

---

### الآية 70:21

> وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا [70:21]

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلۡخَيۡرُ مَنُوعًا


And niggardly when good touches him;

---

### الآية 70:22

> إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ [70:22]

إِلَّا ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ


Except those devoted to Salat (prayers)

---

### الآية 70:23

> الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ [70:23]

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ دَآئِمُونَ


Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers);

---

### الآية 70:24

> وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُومٌ [70:24]

وَٱلَّذِينَ فِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ حَقّٞ مَّعۡلُومٞ


And those in whose wealth there is a known right,

---

### الآية 70:25

> لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ [70:25]

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ


For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened);

---

### الآية 70:26

> وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ [70:26]

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ


And those who believe in the Day of Recompense,

---

### الآية 70:27

> وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ [70:27]

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ


And those who fear the torment of their Lord,

---

### الآية 70:28

> إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ [70:28]

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمۡ غَيۡرُ مَأۡمُونٖ


Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure,

### الآية 70:29

> وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ [70:29]

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَٰفِظُونَ


And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts).

### الآية 70:30

> إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ [70:30]

إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَيۡمَٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَيۡرُ مَلُومِينَ


Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed,

---

### الآية 70:31

> فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ [70:31]

فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَ


But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers.

### الآية 70:32

> وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ [70:32]

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَٰعُونَ


And those who keep their trusts and covenants;

---

### الآية 70:33

> وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ [70:33]

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمۡ قَآئِمُونَ


And those who stand firm in their testimonies;

---

### الآية 70:34

> وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ [70:34]

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُونَ


And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well.

### الآية 70:35

> أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُكْرَمُونَ [70:35]

أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ مُّكۡرَمُونَ


Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured.

### الآية 70:36

> فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ [70:36]

فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ قِبَلَكَ مُهۡطِعِينَ


So what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten to listen from you (O Muhammad SAW), in order to belie you and to mock at you, and at Allah's Book (this Quran).

### الآية 70:37

> عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ [70:37]

عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ


(Sitting) in groups on the right and on the left (of you, O Muhammad SAW)?

### الآية 70:38

> أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ [70:38]

أَيَطۡمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُدۡخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٖ


Does every man of them hope to enter the Paradise of delight?

---

### الآية 70:39

> كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ [70:39]

كَلَّآۖ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعۡلَمُونَ


No, that is not like that! Verily, We have created them out of that which they know!

### الآية 70:40

> فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ [70:40]

فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَ


So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty (360)] points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able

---

### الآية 70:41

> عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ [70:41]

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ


To replace them by (others) better than them; and We are not to be outrun.

### الآية 70:42

> فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ [70:42]

فَذَرۡهُمۡ يَخُوضُواْ وَيَلۡعَبُواْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُواْ يَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ


So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they meet their Day which they are promised.

### الآية 70:43

> يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ [70:43]

يَوۡمَ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ سِرَاعٗا كَأَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٖ يُوفِضُونَ


The Day when they will come out of the graves quickly as racing to a goal,

### الآية 70:44

> خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ [70:44]

خَٰشِعَةً أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٞۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِي كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَ


With their eyes lowered in fear and humility, ignominy covering them (all over)! That is the Day which they were promised!
