### الآية 71:1

> إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ [71:1]

(1) Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, \[saying\], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."

### الآية 71:2

> قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ [71:2]

(2) He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -

### الآية 71:3

> أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ [71:3]

(3) To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.

### الآية 71:4

> يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ [71:4]

(4) He \[i.e., Allāh\] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time \[set by\] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."

### الآية 71:5

> قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا [71:5]

(5) He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people \[to truth\] night and day.

### الآية 71:6

> فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا [71:6]

(6) But my invitation increased them not except in flight \[i.e., aversion\].

### الآية 71:7

> وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا [71:7]

(7) And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments,\[1761\] persisted, and were arrogant with \[great\] arrogance.

### الآية 71:8

> ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا [71:8]

(8) Then I invited them publicly.

### الآية 71:9

> ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا [71:9]

(9) Then I announced to them and \[also\] confided to them secretly

### الآية 71:10

> فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا [71:10]

(10) And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.

### الآية 71:11

> يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا [71:11]

(11) He will send \[rain from\] the sky upon you in \[continuing\] showers

### الآية 71:12

> وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا [71:12]

(12) And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.

### الآية 71:13

> مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا [71:13]

(13) What is \[the matter\] with you that you do not attribute to Allāh \[due\] grandeur

### الآية 71:14

> وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا [71:14]

(14) While He has created you in stages?\[1762\]

\[1762\]- i.e., in various progressive states and conditions. See also 22:5 and 23:12-14 in reference to development of the embryo.

### الآية 71:15

> أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا [71:15]

(15) Do you not consider how Allāh has created seven heavens in layers\[1763\]

### الآية 71:16

> وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا [71:16]

(16) And made the moon therein a \[reflected\] light and made the sun a burning lamp?

### الآية 71:17

> وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا [71:17]

(17) And Allāh has caused you to grow from the earth a \[progressive\] growth.

### الآية 71:18

> ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا [71:18]

(18) Then He will return you into it and extract you \[another\] extraction.

### الآية 71:19

> وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا [71:19]

(19) And Allāh has made for you the earth an expanse

### الآية 71:20

> لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا [71:20]

(20) That you may follow therein roads of passage.'"

### الآية 71:21

> قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَارًا [71:21]

(21) Noah said, "My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.

### الآية 71:22

> وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا [71:22]

(22) And they conspired an immense conspiracy

### الآية 71:23

> وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا [71:23]

(23) And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwāʿ or Yaghūth and Yaʿūq and Nasr.'\[1764\]

\[1764\]- These were the names of specific idols named after pious men of earlier generations.

### الآية 71:24

> وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَالًا [71:24]

(24) And already they have misled many. And, \[my Lord\], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error."

### الآية 71:25

> مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارًا [71:25]

(25) Because of their sins they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allāh \[any\] helpers.

### الآية 71:26

> وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا [71:26]

(26) And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.

### الآية 71:27

> إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوا إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا [71:27]

(27) Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except \[every\] wicked one and \[confirmed\] disbeliever.

### الآية 71:28

> رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا [71:28]

(28) My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction."
