### الآية 74:1

> يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ [74:1]

Al-Muddaththir 
---------------

---

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ


O you shrouded (in your mantle),

---

### الآية 74:2

> قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ [74:2]

قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ


Rise up (and) so warn!

---

### الآية 74:3

> وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ [74:3]

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ


And so your Lord magnify,

---

### الآية 74:4

> وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ [74:4]

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ


And so your clothes purify,

---

### الآية 74:5

> وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ [74:5]

وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ


And so defilement forsake!

### الآية 74:6

> وَلَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ [74:6]

وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ


And be not bountiful, (hoping) to gain more,

---

### الآية 74:7

> وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ [74:7]

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ


And to your Lord (endure) patiently!

### الآية 74:8

> فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ [74:8]

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ


So when Trumpet is sounded (Literally: trumpeted).

---

### الآية 74:9

> فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ [74:9]

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ


Upon that Day then it will be a difficult Day.

### الآية 74:10

> عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ [74:10]

عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرٖ


For the disbelievers, other than being easy.

---

### الآية 74:11

> ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا [74:11]

ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدٗا


Leave Me with him whom I created alone,

### الآية 74:12

> وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَمْدُودًا [74:12]

وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالٗا مَّمۡدُودٗا


And set up (Literally: made) for him extensive wealth,

---

### الآية 74:13

> وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا [74:13]

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودٗا


And sons always in presence,

---

### الآية 74:14

> وَمَهَّدْتُ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا [74:14]

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدٗا


And made (life) smooth for him in an accessible (way).

---

### الآية 74:15

> ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ [74:15]

ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ


Thereafter he expects that I increase (My favors).

### الآية 74:16

> كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا [74:16]

كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدٗا


Not at all! Surely he has been stubborn to Our signs.

### الآية 74:17

> سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا [74:17]

سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا


I will soon oppress him to a (hard) mounting (in calamities).

---

### الآية 74:18

> إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ [74:18]

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ


Surely he did think and he determined!

---

### الآية 74:19

> فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ [74:19]

فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ


So, may he be slain, how he determined!

---

### الآية 74:20

> ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ [74:20]

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ


Again, (Literally: Thereafter) may he be slain, how he determined!

---

### الآية 74:21

> ثُمَّ نَظَرَ [74:21]

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ


Thereafter he looked (round);

---

### الآية 74:22

> ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ [74:22]

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ


Thereafter he frowned, and he scowled;

---

### الآية 74:23

> ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ [74:23]

ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ


Thereafter he withdrew, and he waxed proud.

### الآية 74:24

> فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ [74:24]

فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ يُؤۡثَرُ


So he said, "Decidedly this is nothing except sorcery, transmitted relics.

### الآية 74:25

> إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ [74:25]

إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱلۡبَشَرِ


Decidedly this is nothing except the speech of mortals."

### الآية 74:26

> سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ [74:26]

سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ


I shall soon roast him in Saqar.

---

### الآية 74:27

> وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ [74:27]

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ


And what makes you realize what Saqar is?

---

### الآية 74:28

> لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ [74:28]

لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ


It neither spares (i.e., no survivors remain) nor leaves (anything) behind,

---

### الآية 74:29

> لَوَّاحَةٌ لِلْبَشَرِ [74:29]

لَوَّاحَةٞ لِّلۡبَشَرِ


Shriveling mortals,

---

### الآية 74:30

> عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ [74:30]

عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ


Over it are nineteen.

---

### الآية 74:31

> وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ [74:31]

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٗۖ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنٗا وَلَا يَرۡتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِي مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡبَشَرِ


And in no way have We made the Wardens (Literally: companions) of the Fire except Angels, and in no way have We made their (right) number except as a temptation for the ones who have disbelieved, (and) that the ones to whom the Book has been brought may have certitude, and that the ones who have believed may increase in belief, and that the ones to whom the Book has been brought and the believers may not be suspicious, and that the ones in whose hearts there is sickness and the disbelievers may say, "What would Allah intend by this as a similitude?" Thus does Allah lead into error whomever He decides, and He guides whomever He decides, and in no way does anyone know the hosts of your Lord except He. And in no way is it anything except a Reminding to the mortals.

### الآية 74:32

> كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ [74:32]

كَلَّا وَٱلۡقَمَرِ


Not at all! And (by) the moon,

---

### الآية 74:33

> وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ [74:33]

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ


And the night as it with draws,

---

### الآية 74:34

> وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ [74:34]

وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ


And the morning when it shines (forth),

---

### الآية 74:35

> إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ [74:35]

إِنَّهَا لَإِحۡدَى ٱلۡكُبَرِ


Surely it is indeed one of the greatest things,

---

### الآية 74:36

> نَذِيرًا لِلْبَشَرِ [74:36]

نَذِيرٗا لِّلۡبَشَرِ


As a warning to mortals,

---

### الآية 74:37

> لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ [74:37]

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوۡ يَتَأَخَّرَ


To whomever of you who decides to go forward or postpone (i.e., performing righteous deeds or falling into evil).

### الآية 74:38

> كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ [74:38]

كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ


Every self will be pledged for whatever it has earned.

---

### الآية 74:39

> إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ [74:39]

إِلَّآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ


Except the companions of the Right.

---

### الآية 74:40

> فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ [74:40]

فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ


In Gardens they will ask one another (questions).

---

### الآية 74:41

> عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ [74:41]

عَنِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ


Concerning the criminals,

---

### الآية 74:42

> مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ [74:42]

مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِي سَقَرَ


"What inserted you into Saqar?"

---

### الآية 74:43

> قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ [74:43]

قَالُواْ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ


They will say, "We were not of the ones who prayed,

---

### الآية 74:44

> وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ [74:44]

وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ


And we did not feed the indigent,

---

### الآية 74:45

> وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ [74:45]

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلۡخَآئِضِينَ


And we used to wade with the waders, (i.e., wade in vaintalk).

---

### الآية 74:46

> وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ [74:46]

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ


And we used to cry lies to the Day of Doom.

---

### الآية 74:47

> حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ [74:47]

حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡيَقِينُ


Until the Certitude came up to us."

---

### الآية 74:48

> فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ [74:48]

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمۡ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ


So in no way will the intercession of the intercessors profit them.

### الآية 74:49

> فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ [74:49]

فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلتَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِينَ


Then what is it with them that they are veering away from the Reminder.

### الآية 74:50

> كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ [74:50]

كَأَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرٞ مُّسۡتَنفِرَةٞ


As if they were stampeding reddish asses,

---

### الآية 74:51

> فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ [74:51]

فَرَّتۡ مِن قَسۡوَرَةِۭ


Fleeing from a fierce beast? (Or: animal)

---

### الآية 74:52

> بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُنَشَّرَةً [74:52]

بَلۡ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفٗا مُّنَشَّرَةٗ


No indeed, every person of them would like scrolls spread open to be brought him.

### الآية 74:53

> كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ [74:53]

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ


Not at all! No indeed, (but) they do not fear the Hereafter.

### الآية 74:54

> كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ [74:54]

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةٞ


Not at all! Surely it is a Reminder.

---

### الآية 74:55

> فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ [74:55]

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ


So whoever decides will remember it.

---

### الآية 74:56

> وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ [74:56]

وَمَا يَذۡكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ أَهۡلُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ وَأَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ


And in no way will they remember, except that Allah decides. He is The Source (Literally: The only Qualified One) of piety and The Source of forgiveness.
