### الآية 75:1

> لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ [75:1]

(1) I swear by the Day of Resurrection

### الآية 75:2

> وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ [75:2]

(2) And I swear by the reproaching soul\[1800\] \[to the certainty of resurrection\].
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1800\]- i.e., that of the believer, which blames him when he falls into sin or error.

### الآية 75:3

> أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَلَّنْ نَجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ [75:3]

(3) Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

### الآية 75:4

> بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ [75:4]

(4) Yes. \[We are\] Able \[even\] to proportion his fingertips.

### الآية 75:5

> بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ [75:5]

(5) But man desires to continue in sin.\[1801\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1801\]- Literally, "to sin ahead of him." This refers to the disbeliever, who denies the Day of Account.

### الآية 75:6

> يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ [75:6]

(6) He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

### الآية 75:7

> فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ [75:7]

(7) So when vision is dazzled.

### الآية 75:8

> وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ [75:8]

(8) And the moon darkens.

### الآية 75:9

> وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ [75:9]

(9) And the sun and the moon are joined,

### الآية 75:10

> يَقُولُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ [75:10]

(10) Man will say on that Day, "Where is the \[place of\] escape?"

### الآية 75:11

> كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ [75:11]

(11) No! There is no refuge.

### الآية 75:12

> إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ [75:12]

(12) To your Lord, that Day, is the \[place of\] permanence.

### الآية 75:13

> يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ [75:13]

(13) Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead\[1802\] and kept back.\[1803\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1802\]- i.e., his deeds, which await him in the Hereafter.
\[1803\]- i.e., that which he did not do or which he delayed.

### الآية 75:14

> بَلِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ [75:14]

(14) Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,\[1804\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1804\]- As described in 36:65 and 41:20-23.

### الآية 75:15

> وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ [75:15]

(15) Even if he presents his excuses.

### الآية 75:16

> لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ [75:16]

(16) Move not your tongue with it, \[O Muḥammad\], to hasten with it \[i.e., recitation of the Qur’ān\].

### الآية 75:17

> إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ [75:17]

(17) Indeed, upon Us is its collection \[in your heart\] and \[to make possible\] its recitation.

### الآية 75:18

> فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ [75:18]

(18) So when We have recited it \[through Gabriel\], then follow its recitation.

### الآية 75:19

> ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ [75:19]

(19) Then upon Us is its clarification \[to you\].

### الآية 75:20

> كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ [75:20]

(20) No! But you \[i.e., mankind\] love the immediate

### الآية 75:21

> وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ [75:21]

(21) And leave \[i.e., neglect\] the Hereafter.

### الآية 75:22

> وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاضِرَةٌ [75:22]

(22) \[Some\] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

### الآية 75:23

> إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ [75:23]

(23) Looking at their Lord.\[1805\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1805\]- The people of Paradise will actually see their Creator in the Hereafter.

### الآية 75:24

> وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ [75:24]

(24) And \[some\] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

### الآية 75:25

> تَظُنُّ أَنْ يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ [75:25]

(25) Expecting that there will be done to them \[something\] backbreaking.

### الآية 75:26

> كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ [75:26]

(26) No! When it \[i.e., the soul\] has reached the collar bones\[1806\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1806\]- At the time it is about to leave the body when one is on the verge of death.

### الآية 75:27

> وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ [75:27]

(27) And it is said, "Who will cure \[him\]?"

### الآية 75:28

> وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ [75:28]

(28) And he \[i.e., the dying one\] is certain that it is the \[time of\] separation

### الآية 75:29

> وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ [75:29]

(29) And the leg is wound about the leg,\[1807\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1807\]- From the difficulties the person faces at death or his sudden awareness of the realities of both this world and the Hereafter. It may also refer to his shrouding after death.

### الآية 75:30

> إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ [75:30]

(30) To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.\[1808\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1808\]- Literally, "driving" or "herding" or "the place to which one is driven."

### الآية 75:31

> فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ [75:31]

(31) And he \[i.e., the disbeliever\] had not believed, nor had he prayed.

### الآية 75:32

> وَلَٰكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ [75:32]

(32) But \[instead\], he denied and turned away.

### الآية 75:33

> ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ [75:33]

(33) And then he went to his people, swaggering \[in pride\].

### الآية 75:34

> أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ [75:34]

(34) Woe to you, and woe!

### الآية 75:35

> ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ [75:35]

(35) Then woe to you, and woe!

### الآية 75:36

> أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنْ يُتْرَكَ سُدًى [75:36]

(36) Does man think that he will be left neglected?\[1809\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1809\]- i.e., to no end, without responsibility, or without being returned to the Creator for judgement.

### الآية 75:37

> أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِنْ مَنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ [75:37]

(37) Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

### الآية 75:38

> ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ [75:38]

(38) Then he was a clinging clot, and \[Allāh\] created \[his form\] and proportioned \[him\]

### الآية 75:39

> فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ [75:39]

(39) And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

### الآية 75:40

> أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ [75:40]

(40) Is not that \[Creator\] Able to give life to the dead?
