### الآية 80:1

> عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ [80:1]

'Abasa 
-------

---

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ


(The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away,

---

### الآية 80:2

> أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ [80:2]

أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ


Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs).

### الآية 80:3

> وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ [80:3]

وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ


But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)?

### الآية 80:4

> أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ [80:4]

أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ


Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him?

---

### الآية 80:5

> أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ [80:5]

أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ


As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient,

---

### الآية 80:6

> فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ [80:6]

فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ


To him you attend;

---

### الآية 80:7

> وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ [80:7]

وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ


What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah).

### الآية 80:8

> وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ [80:8]

وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ


But as to him who came to you running.

---

### الآية 80:9

> وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ [80:9]

وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ


And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment),

---

### الآية 80:10

> فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ [80:10]

فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ


Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another,

---

### الآية 80:11

> كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ [80:11]

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞ


Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition,

---

### الآية 80:12

> فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ [80:12]

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ


So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it.

### الآية 80:13

> فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ [80:13]

فِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ


(It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz).

---

### الآية 80:14

> مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ [80:14]

مَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ


Exalted (in dignity), purified,

---

### الآية 80:15

> بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ [80:15]

بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ


In the hands of scribes (angels).

---

### الآية 80:16

> كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ [80:16]

كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖ


Honourable and obedient.

---

### الآية 80:17

> قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ [80:17]

قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ


Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is!

---

### الآية 80:18

> مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ [80:18]

مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ


From what thing did He create him?

---

### الآية 80:19

> مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ [80:19]

مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ


From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion;

### الآية 80:20

> ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ [80:20]

ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ


Then He makes the Path easy for him;

---

### الآية 80:21

> ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ [80:21]

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ


Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave;

---

### الآية 80:22

> ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ [80:22]

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ


Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again).

---

### الآية 80:23

> كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ [80:23]

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ


Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him.

---

### الآية 80:24

> فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ [80:24]

فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ


Then let man look at his food,

---

### الآية 80:25

> أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا [80:25]

أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗا


That We pour forth water in abundance,

---

### الآية 80:26

> ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا [80:26]

ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗا


And We split the earth in clefts,

---

### الآية 80:27

> فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا [80:27]

فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗا


And We cause therein the grain to grow,

---

### الآية 80:28

> وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا [80:28]

وَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗا


And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle),

---

### الآية 80:29

> وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا [80:29]

وَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗا


And olives and date-palms,

---

### الآية 80:30

> وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا [80:30]

وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗا


And gardens, dense with many trees,

---

### الآية 80:31

> وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا [80:31]

وَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗا


And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.),

---

### الآية 80:32

> مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ [80:32]

مَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ


(To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.

---

### الآية 80:33

> فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ [80:33]

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ


Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet),

---

### الآية 80:34

> يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ [80:34]

يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ


That Day shall a man flee from his brother,

---

### الآية 80:35

> وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ [80:35]

وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ


And from his mother and his father,

---

### الآية 80:36

> وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ [80:36]

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ


And from his wife and his children.

---

### الآية 80:37

> لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ [80:37]

لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِ


Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others.

### الآية 80:38

> وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ [80:38]

وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ


Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism).

### الآية 80:39

> ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ [80:39]

ضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞ


Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise).

---

### الآية 80:40

> وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ [80:40]

وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞ


And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained;

---

### الآية 80:41

> تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ [80:41]

تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ


Darkness will cover them,

---

### الآية 80:42

> أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ [80:42]

أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ


Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers).
