Translation of Surah عبس from "الترجمة الإنجليزية للمختصر في تفسير القرآن الكريم" in الإنجليزية. ### الآية 80:1 > عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ [80:1] 1\. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) frowned and turned away. ### الآية 80:2 > أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ [80:2] 2\. Because of the arrival of ‘Abdullah ibn Umm Maktūm who came asking for guidance. He was blind, and had come when the Messenger (peace be upon him) was busy with the seniors of the idolaters, hoping they would be guided. ### الآية 80:3 > وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ [80:3] 3\. O Messenger! What do you know, maybe this blind man may be purified of his sins? ### الآية 80:4 > أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ [80:4] 4\. Or that he may take heed of the advices he hears from you and benefit from them? ### الآية 80:5 > أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ [80:5] 5\. As for those who feel they have no need to bring faith in what you have brought, due to the wealth they possess. ### الآية 80:6 > فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ [80:6] 6\. You persevere behind them and are attentive to them. ### الآية 80:7 > وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ [80:7] 7\. What blame will there be on you if he is not purified of his sins by not repenting to Allah? ### الآية 80:8 > وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ [80:8] 8\. As for the one who comes to you running, searching for goodness. ### الآية 80:9 > وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ [80:9] 9\. And he fears his Lord. ### الآية 80:10 > فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ [80:10] 10\. You are preoccupied from him with others i.e. the senior idolaters. ### الآية 80:11 > كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ [80:11] 11\. It should not be like that; it is only admonition and a reminder for those who pay attention. ### الآية 80:12 > فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ [80:12] 12\. So whoever wishes to remember Allah should remember Him, and take heed of what is in this Qur’ān. ### الآية 80:13 > فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ [80:13] 13\. Because this Qur’ān is in blessed scrolls, with the angels. ### الآية 80:14 > مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ [80:14] 14\. They are raised on a high place, pure; no dirt or filth reaches them. ### الآية 80:15 > بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ [80:15] 15\. And they are in the hands of Messengers among the angels. ### الآية 80:16 > كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ [80:16] 16\. They are honourable in the eyes of their Lord, frequent performers of goodness and obedience. ### الآية 80:17 > قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ [80:17] 17\. The disbelieving human is cursed; how severe is his disbelief in Allah! ### الآية 80:18 > مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ [80:18] 18\. What substance did Allah create him from, that he has the right to display arrogance on earth and disbelieve in Him?! ### الآية 80:19 > مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ [80:19] 19\. He created him from a small amount of fluid, and managed his creation in stages. ### الآية 80:20 > ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ [80:20] 20\. Then after these stages, He made the exit from his mother’s belly easy for him. ### الآية 80:21 > ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ [80:21] 21\. Then, after spending the amount of life decreed for him, Allah caused death upon him and made a grave for him wherein he remains until he is resurrected. ### الآية 80:22 > ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ [80:22] 22\. Then, when He wishes, He will resurrect him for accounting and requital. ### الآية 80:23 > كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ [80:23] 23\. It is not like this disbeliever imagines: that he has fulfilled the rights of Allah upon him, because he has not fulfilled the obligatory actions Allah put upon him. ### الآية 80:24 > فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ [80:24] 24\. So the human who disbelieves in Allah should look at the food he eats: how did he come to acquire it? ### الآية 80:25 > أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا [80:25] 25\. It originates from the rain descending from the sky with force and in abundance. ### الآية 80:26 > ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا [80:26] 26\. Then, I split open the earth, so it springs forth with plants. ### الآية 80:27 > فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا [80:27] 27\. I then make grains grow on it, i.e. wheat, corn etc. ### الآية 80:28 > وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا [80:28] 28\. And I make fresh grapes and fodder grow on it, so it can be feed for your livestock. ### الآية 80:29 > وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا [80:29] 29\. And I also make olives and date palms grow on it. ### الآية 80:30 > وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا [80:30] 30\. I also make abundant gardens and trees grow on it. ### الآية 80:31 > وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا [80:31] 31\. And I make fruits grow on it, together with things your livestock graze. ### الآية 80:32 > مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ [80:32] 32\. For your benefit, and the benefit of your livestock. ### الآية 80:33 > فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ [80:33] 33\. So when the great shriek will come that will deafen the ears i.e. the second blowing. ### الآية 80:34 > يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ [80:34] 34\. On that day a person will run from his brother. ### الآية 80:35 > وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ [80:35] 35\. And he will run from his parents. ### الآية 80:36 > وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ [80:36] 36\. And he will run from his wife and children. ### الآية 80:37 > لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ [80:37] 37\. Each one of them will be in a state where he will be preoccupied from them due to the extreme anxiety on that day. ### الآية 80:38 > وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ [80:38] 38\. The faces of the fortunate ones that day will be bright. ### الآية 80:39 > ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ [80:39] 39\. Laughing in happiness due to what Allah has prepared for them out of His mercy. ### الآية 80:40 > وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ [80:40] 40\. And the faces of the wretched people will have dust on them on that day. ### الآية 80:41 > تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ [80:41] 41\. Darkness will come over them. ### الآية 80:42 > أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ [80:42] 42\.
