### الآية 83:1

> وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ [83:1]

(1) Woe to those who give less \[than due\],\[1878\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1878\]- i.e., those who cheat people by giving them less than what they paid for when weighing or measuring - an amount so little as to hardly be noticed.

### الآية 83:2

> الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ [83:2]

(2) Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.

### الآية 83:3

> وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ [83:3]

(3) But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.

### الآية 83:4

> أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَبْعُوثُونَ [83:4]

(4) Do they not think that they will be resurrected

### الآية 83:5

> لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ [83:5]

(5) For a tremendous Day -

### الآية 83:6

> يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ [83:6]

(6) The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

### الآية 83:7

> كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ [83:7]

(7) No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

### الآية 83:8

> وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ [83:8]

(8) And what can make you know what is sijjeen?

### الآية 83:9

> كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ [83:9]

(9) It is \[their destination\[1879\] recorded in\] a register inscribed. 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1879\]- The lowest depths of Hell.

### الآية 83:10

> وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ [83:10]

(10) Woe, that Day, to the deniers,

### الآية 83:11

> الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ [83:11]

(11) Who deny the Day of Recompense.

### الآية 83:12

> وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ [83:12]

(12) And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

### الآية 83:13

> إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ [83:13]

(13) When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

### الآية 83:14

> كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ [83:14]

(14) No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.\[1880\] 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1880\]- i.e., their sins.

### الآية 83:15

> كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَمَحْجُوبُونَ [83:15]

(15) No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.\[1881\] 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1881\]- i.e., they will not be able to see Him.

### الآية 83:16

> ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ [83:16]

(16) Then indeed, they will \[enter and\] burn in Hellfire.

### الآية 83:17

> ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ [83:17]

(17) Then it will be said \[to them\], "This is what you used to deny."

### الآية 83:18

> كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ [83:18]

(18) No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ʿilliyyūn.

### الآية 83:19

> وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ [83:19]

(19) And what can make you know what is ʿilliyyūn?

### الآية 83:20

> كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ [83:20]

(20) It is \[their destination\[1882\] recorded in\] a register inscribed 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1882\]- The highest elevations of Paradise.

### الآية 83:21

> يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ [83:21]

(21) Which is witnessed by those brought near \[to Allāh\].

### الآية 83:22

> إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ [83:22]

(22) Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

### الآية 83:23

> عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ [83:23]

(23) On adorned couches, observing.

### الآية 83:24

> تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ [83:24]

(24) You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

### الآية 83:25

> يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ [83:25]

(25) They will be given to drink \[pure\] wine\[1883\] \[which was\] sealed. 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1883\]- Which is delicious and does not intoxicate.

### الآية 83:26

> خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ [83:26]

(26) The last of it\[1884\] is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1884\]- i.e., its lingering odor.

### الآية 83:27

> وَمِزَاجُهُ مِنْ تَسْنِيمٍ [83:27]

(27) And its mixture is of Tasneem,\[1885\] 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1885\]- The highest spring in Paradise and the most favored drink of its inhabitants.

### الآية 83:28

> عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ [83:28]

(28) A spring from which those near \[to Allāh\] drink.

### الآية 83:29

> إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ [83:29]

(29) Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

### الآية 83:30

> وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ [83:30]

(30) And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

### الآية 83:31

> وَإِذَا انْقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ [83:31]

(31) And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

### الآية 83:32

> وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ [83:32]

(32) And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

### الآية 83:33

> وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ [83:33]

(33) But they had not been sent as guardians over them.

### الآية 83:34

> فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ [83:34]

(34) So Today\[1886\] those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\[1886\]- On the Day of Judgement.

### الآية 83:35

> عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ [83:35]

(35) On adorned couches, observing.

### الآية 83:36

> هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ [83:36]

(36) Have the disbelievers \[not\] been rewarded \[this Day\] for what they used to do?
