### الآية 83:1

> وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ [83:1]

1\. Woe to Al-Mutaffifûn (those who give less in measure and weight).

### الآية 83:2

> ﻿الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ [83:2]

2. Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure,

### الآية 83:3

> ﻿وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ [83:3]

3. And when they have to give by measure or weight to (other) men, give less than due.

### الآية 83:4

> ﻿أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَبْعُوثُونَ [83:4]

4. Do they not think that they will be resurrected (for reckoning),

### الآية 83:5

> ﻿لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ [83:5]

5. On a Great Day?

### الآية 83:6

> ﻿يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ [83:6]

6. The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)?

### الآية 83:7

> ﻿كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ [83:7]

7\. Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjâr (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, evil-doers and the wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjîn.

### الآية 83:8

> ﻿وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ [83:8]

8. And what will make you know what Sijjîn is?

### الآية 83:9

> ﻿كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ [83:9]

9. A Register inscribed.

### الآية 83:10

> ﻿وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ [83:10]

10. Woe, that Day, to those who deny.

### الآية 83:11

> ﻿الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ [83:11]

11. Those who deny the Day of Recompense.

### الآية 83:12

> ﻿وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ [83:12]

12. And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience to Allâh) the sinner!

### الآية 83:13

> ﻿إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ [83:13]

13. When Our Verses (of the Qur’ân) are recited to him he says: "Tales of the ancients!"

### الآية 83:14

> ﻿كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ [83:14]

14. Nay! But on their hearts is the Rân (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn.\[1\]

(V.83:14) Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "When a slave (a person) commits a sin (an evil deed) a black dot is dotted on his heart. Then if that person gives up that evil deed (sin), begs Allâh to forgive him, and repents, then his heart is cleared (from that heart covering dot); but if he repeats the evil deed (sin), then that covering is increased till his heart is completely covered with it. And that is Ar-Rân which Allâh mentioned (in the Qur’ân), "Nay! but on their hearts is the Rân (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn." (At-Tirmidhi, Vol.5, Hadith No.3334).

### الآية 83:15

> ﻿كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَمَحْجُوبُونَ [83:15]

15. Nay! Surely they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day.

### الآية 83:16

> ﻿ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ [83:16]

16. Then, verily, they will indeed enter (and taste) the burning flame of Hell.

### الآية 83:17

> ﻿ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ [83:17]

17. Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!"

### الآية 83:18

> ﻿كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ [83:18]

18. Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrâr (the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism) is (preserved) in ‘Illiyyûn

### الآية 83:19

> ﻿وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ [83:19]

19. And what will make you know what ‘Illiyyûn is?

### الآية 83:20

> ﻿كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ [83:20]

20. A Register inscribed,

### الآية 83:21

> ﻿يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ [83:21]

21. To which bear witness those nearest (to Allâh, i.e. the angels).

### الآية 83:22

> ﻿إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ [83:22]

22. Verily, Al-Abrâr (the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism) will be in Delight (Paradise).

### الآية 83:23

> ﻿عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ [83:23]

23. On thrones, looking (at all things).

### الآية 83:24

> ﻿تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ [83:24]

24. You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight.

### الآية 83:25

> ﻿يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ [83:25]

25. They will be given to drink of pure sealed wine.

### الآية 83:26

> ﻿خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ [83:26]

26. The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of Musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah).

### الآية 83:27

> ﻿وَمِزَاجُهُ مِنْ تَسْنِيمٍ [83:27]

27. It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnîm:

### الآية 83:28

> ﻿عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ [83:28]

28. A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allâh.

### الآية 83:29

> ﻿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ [83:29]

29. Verily, (during the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

### الآية 83:30

> ﻿وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ [83:30]

30. And, whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery).

### الآية 83:31

> ﻿وَإِذَا انْقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ [83:31]

31. And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting;

### الآية 83:32

> ﻿وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ [83:32]

32. And when they saw them, they said: "Verily these have indeed gone astray!"

### الآية 83:33

> ﻿وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ [83:33]

33. But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers).

### الآية 83:34

> ﻿فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ [83:34]

34. But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers\[2\]
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
(V.83:34) Narrated Anas bin Mâlik رضي الله عنه: A man said, "O Allâh’s Prophet! Will Allâh gather a disbeliever (prone) on his face on the Day of Resurrection?" He صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Will not the One Who made him walk on his feet in this world, be able to make him walk on his face on the Day of Resurrection?" (Qatâdah, a subnarrator, said: "Yes, By the Power of Our Lord!") (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.6, Hadith No.283).

### الآية 83:35

> ﻿عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ [83:35]

35\. On (high) thrones, looking (at all things).

### الآية 83:36

> ﻿هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ [83:36]

36. Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do?
