### الآية 90:1

> لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ [90:1]

Al-Balad 
---------

---

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ


I swear by this city,

---

### الآية 90:2

> وَأَنْتَ حِلٌّ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ [90:2]

وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ


-and (O Prophet,) you are going to be allowed (to fight) in this city-

---

### الآية 90:3

> وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ [90:3]

وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ


and by the father and all those he begot,

---

### الآية 90:4

> لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ [90:4]

لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ


indeed We have created man (to live) in hard struggle.

### الآية 90:5

> أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ [90:5]

أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞ


Does he think that no one has power over him?

### الآية 90:6

> يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُبَدًا [90:6]

يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا


He says, “I have spent a lot of wealth.”

### الآية 90:7

> أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ [90:7]

أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ


Does he think that no one has seen him?

### الآية 90:8

> أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُ عَيْنَيْنِ [90:8]

أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ


Did We not make for him two eyes,

---

### الآية 90:9

> وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ [90:9]

وَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ


and one tongue and two lips,

---

### الآية 90:10

> وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ [90:10]

وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ


and showed him the two ways?

---

### الآية 90:11

> فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ [90:11]

فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ


Yet he did not make his way through the steep course,- -

---

### الآية 90:12

> وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ [90:12]

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ


- And what may let you know what the steep course is?

---

### الآية 90:13

> فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ [90:13]

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ


(It is) freeing of the neck of a slave,

---

### الآية 90:14

> أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ [90:14]

أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ


or giving food in a day of hunger

### الآية 90:15

> يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ [90:15]

يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ


to an orphan near of kin,

---

### الآية 90:16

> أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ [90:16]

أَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖ


or to a needy person lying in dust- -

### الآية 90:17

> ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ [90:17]

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ


- then he did not join those who believe and advise each other to be patient and advise each other to be merciful.

### الآية 90:18

> أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ [90:18]

أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ


Those are the People of the Right Hand. (i.e. their books of deeds will be given in their right hands)

### الآية 90:19

> وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ [90:19]

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ


As for those who reject Our verses, they are the People of the Left Hand. (i.e. their books of deeds will be given in their left hands.)

### الآية 90:20

> عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ [90:20]

عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ


Upon them will be the Fire, enveloping them with closed exits.
