### الآية 91:1

> وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا [91:1]

Ash-Shams 
----------

---

وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا


(91:1) By the sun and its heat and brightness,1

---

### الآية 91:2

> وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا [91:2]

وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا


(91:2) and by the moon as it follows it; 

---

### الآية 91:3

> وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا [91:3]

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا


(91:3) and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 

---

### الآية 91:4

> وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا [91:4]

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا


(91:4) and by the night as it envelopes the sun;2

### الآية 91:5

> وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا [91:5]

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا


(91:5) and by the sky and by Him Who made it;3

---

### الآية 91:6

> وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا [91:6]

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا


(91:6) and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 

---

### الآية 91:7

> وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا [91:7]

وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا


(91:7) and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it,4

---

### الآية 91:8

> فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا [91:8]

فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا


(91:8) and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety:5

### الآية 91:9

> قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا [91:9]

قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا


(91:9) He who purifies it will prosper, 

---

### الآية 91:10

> وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا [91:10]

وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا


(91:10) and he who suppresses it will be ruined.6

### الآية 91:11

> كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا [91:11]

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِطَغۡوَىٰهَآ


(91:11) In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud7 called the 
 Truth a lie8

---

### الآية 91:12

> إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا [91:12]

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشۡقَىٰهَا


(91:12) when their arch-criminal rose up in rage.

### الآية 91:13

> فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا [91:13]

فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡيَٰهَا


(91:13) Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and 
 her drink!”9

### الآية 91:14

> فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا [91:14]

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوَّىٰهَا


(91:14) But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel.0 
 For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the 
 ground.

### الآية 91:15

> وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا [91:15]

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبَٰهَا


(91:15) He has no fear of its sequel.1
