### الآية 96:1

> اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ [96:1]

Read in the name of your Lord who has created

### الآية 96:2

> خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ [96:2]

– created man out of a clinging cell mass.

### الآية 96:3

> اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ [96:3]

Read – for your Lord is the most Bountiful One,

### الآية 96:4

> الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ [96:4]

Who has taught the use of the pen,

### الآية 96:5

> عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ [96:5]

taught man what he did not know.

### الآية 96:6

> كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ [96:6]

Indeed, man becomes grossly overweening,

### الآية 96:7

> أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ [96:7]

once he thinks himself self sufficient.

### الآية 96:8

> إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ [96:8]

Surely to your Lord all must return.

### الآية 96:9

> أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ [96:9]

Look at the one who tries to prevent

### الآية 96:10

> عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ [96:10]

a servant of God from praying!

### الآية 96:11

> أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ [96:11]

Think: does he follow the right guidance

### الآية 96:12

> أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ [96:12]

and enjoin \[others to be\] God-fearing?

### الآية 96:13

> أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ [96:13]

Think: if he denies the truth and turns his back,

### الآية 96:14

> أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ [96:14]

does he not realise that God sees all?

### الآية 96:15

> كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ [96:15]

Nay, if he does not desist, We will most certainly drag him by his forelock,

### الآية 96:16

> نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ [96:16]

his lying, sinful forelock.

### الآية 96:17

> فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ [96:17]

Then let him call his henchmen.

### الآية 96:18

> سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ [96:18]

We will call the guards of hell.

### الآية 96:19

> كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩ [96:19]

No, pay no heed to him, but prostrate yourself and draw closer to God.
