(3) But what would make you perceive, [O Muḥammad], that perhaps he might be purified[1854]

 3. And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)?

وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

And what makes you (The prophet) realize whether he (The blind man (Abdullah ibn Umm Maktum) would possibly (try) to cleanse himself.

But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)?

(80:3) How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself,

3. O Messenger! What do you know, maybe this blind man may be purified of his sins?
