(72) And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed[30] over it, but Allāh was to bring out that which you were concealing.— الترجمة الإنجليزية - صحيح انترناشونال
[30]- i.e., exchanged accusations and denials.
72. And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allâh brought forth that which you were hiding.— الترجمة الإنجليزية
— Dr. Ghali - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَAnd (remember) as you killed a self, (and) so you parried about it, and Allah is to bring out whatever you were keeping back.
— Muhsin Khan - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَAnd (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding.

— Sahih International - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَAnd [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.
— Abul Ala Maududi(With tafsir) - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَ(2:72) And recall when you killed a man and then began to remonstrate and
cast the blame (of killing) upon one another even though Allah was determined
to bring to light what you were hiding.
— Abdul Haleem - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَThen, when you [Israelites] killed someone and started to blame one another- although God was to bring what you had concealed to light-
— Mufti Taqi Usmani - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَAnd when you killed a man, and started putting the blame for it on one another, while Allah was to bring forth what you were holding back.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَ˹This is˺ when a man was killed and you disputed who the killer was, but Allah revealed what you concealed.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab - English translationوَإِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسٗا فَٱدَّـٰرَٰٔتُمۡ فِيهَاۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَ˹This is˺ when a man was killed and you disputed who the killer was, but Allah revealed what you concealed.

72. Allah reminds the Israelites about when they killed one of their own. They accused each other of it, each rejecting the accusation of having killed him, and accusing someone else, until they fought. But Allah revealed what they were hiding about the murder of the innocent person.— الترجمة الإنجليزية للمختصر في تفسير القرآن الكريم
