(18) And already had those before them denied, and how [terrible] was My reproach.

 18. And indeed those before them belied (the Messengers of Allâh), then how terrible was My denial (punishment)?

And indeed the ones even before them already cried lies; then how was My disclaiming!

18. Verily, the nations that came before these idolaters rejected, and so the punishment of Allah descended upon them after they insisted in their disbelief and rejection, so how was My disavowal of them? Verily, it was a severe disavowal.
