Abul Ala Maududi(With tafsir) - English translation

آية رقم 1

Al-Muzzammil

(73:1) O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one!1
آية رقم 2

(73:2) Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it;2
آية رقم 4

(73:4) or add to it a little;3 and recite the Qur'an slowly and
distinctly.4
آية رقم 6

(73:6) Surely getting up at night6 is the best means of subduing
the self7 and is more suitable for uprightness in speech.8
آية رقم 7

(73:7) You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the
world.
آية رقم 8

(73:8) So remember the name of your Lord9 and devote yourself
to Him with exclusive devotion.
آية رقم 11

(73:11) Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie2
(to the Truth), and bear with them for a while.
آية رقم 12

(73:12) We have heavy fetters3 and a blazing Fire in store for
them;
آية رقم 14

(73:14) (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the
mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps
of scattered sand.4
آية رقم 16

(73:16) But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible
seizing.
آية رقم 17

(73:17) If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against
the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired,7
آية رقم 18

(73:18) the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's
promise is ever bound to be fulfilled.

(73:20) (O Prophet),8 your Lord knows that you sometimes stand
up in Prayer nearly two-thirds of the night, and sometimes half or one-third
of it, 9 and so does a party of those with you;0 Allah
measures the night and the day. He knows that you cannot keep an accurate count
of it, so He has shown mercy to you. So now recite as much of the Qur'an as
you can.1 He knows that there are among you those who are sick and
others who are journeying in the land in quest of Allah's bounty,2
and still others who are fighting in the cause of Allah.3 So recite
as much of the Qur'an as you easily can, and establish Prayer, and pay Zakah,4
and give Allah a goodly loan.5 Whatever good you send forth for
yourselves, you shall find it with Allah. That is better and its reward is greater.6
And ask for Allah's forgiveness; surely He is Most Forgiving, Most Compassionate.
